Gisborne Airport is a small regional airport located just outside the town, only 1.5 km east of the center. Gisborne Airport has become famous for the bizar situation that an active railway line (Palmerston North – Gisborne Line) is crossing the runway. Several airlines provide services at this airport: Air Napier flies to Napier and Wairoa, Sunair to Hamilton and Whakatane while Air New Zealand Link provides through its subsidiaries flights to Auckland and Wellington.
Gisborne airport is located just 1,5km east of the center so you can simply walk to your destination. If you have a lot of luggage there are cars available for rent and most likely taxis will be waiting after a flight arrival.
