Sultan Mahmud Airport is a medium-sized domestic airport near the city of Kuala Terengganu in the state of Terengganu in Malaysia.
The airport is named after the 16th Sultan of Terengganu who ruled from 1978 till 1998. The airport handles about a half million passengers a year but this will rise when the upgrade is finished to make Sultan Mahmud Airport an international airport with an extended runway and an upgrade of the passenger terminal. After the upgrade flights will commence to Singapore, Kunming, Ho Chi Minh City and others.
The Sultan Mahmud airport is located about 10 km north of central Kuala Terengganu and 25 km southeast of the Merang Jetty.
As there is no public bus transport option at this airport you have to take a taxi to get into town. Taxis should have a fixed price of RM 25 for the short ride into Kuala Terengganu, or RM 50 to the Merang Jetty.
