Samui International Airport, also known as Koh Samui Airport, is the main airport on the island of Koh Samui in Thailand. Built by Bangkok Airways, construction started in 1982 and the airport was officially opened in April 1989.
This airport is one of the busiest airports in Thailand, it handles more than one million passengers per year. Currently around 7 airlines have flights to Koh Samui Airport serving nonstop flights to nine cities in Thailand.
Most flights from Samui International Airport are to Bangkok and to Phuket but there are many more flights to other destinations as well, most of them by Bangkok Airways. Every day there are flights to 8 destinations from Samui International Airport. Here are the most popular destinations:
The airport has two terminals: Domestic & International. The International Terminal is located approximately 50 meters to the north. Samui Airport is an unusual airport because there is no waiting room in the airport area, only gift shops. Passengers can wait in an open area outside the building.
The airport is located on Koh Samui island, about 2 km north of the main village Chaweng.
Samui Airport is located near the Big Buddha Pier, where ferries for Ko Pha Ngan depart. High speed ferries to Koh Tao and Chumphon depart from Maenam Beach Pier, located about 6 km northwest of the airport.
Transport around the island is easy and pretty cheap. From the airport you can share a minibus to Chaweng for 200 baht per person, or get a taxi for 500 baht.
