Sorong Airport is the gateway to Raja Ampat and one of the larger airports on Papua. Passenger numbers have increased in the last years due to the increasing popularity of Raja Ampat and a expansion project has just been finished. Sorong Airport is only reachable from within Indonesia: there are no international flights.
Most flights from Domine Eduard Osok Airport are to Makassar and to Jakarta but there are many more flights to other destinations as well, most of them by Lion Air. Every day there are flights to 11 destinations from Domine Eduard Osok Airport. Here are the most popular destinations:
Sorong Airport has one runway which was extended in the latest expansion project and a brand new passenger terminal, which opened in 2016, with a capacity of up to 2.4 million passengers a year, including two jetbridges. With the new terminal and runway the airport can now accomodate larger aircraft like B737s.
The Domine Eduard Osok Airport is located at Jl. Basuki Rahmat Km 8, Sorong on the outskirts of the city, only about 8 km southeast of the city center and just about 4 km from the harbour (Pelabuhan Rakyat).
You can use the local public transportation (angkot), which is cheap but you have to walk about 100m to the highway. Fare for the angkot is Rp. 3000. If you want to go to the harbor or city center, you have to take two different angkots (total fare Rp. 6000). The angkots are very easy and cheap way for transportation in Sorong.
You can also take a motorbike taxi (ojek) for Rp. 30.000 to the city center.
Taxi fare from the airport to the harbour for a ferry to Raja Ampat is about Rp. 100.000. Expect to pay about Rp. 150.000 for a taxi into Sorong city center.
