The Taupo Airport is located on the eastern shores of Lake Taupo, in the center of the North Island of New Zealand, about 8km south of the Taupo township. The lake is a popular tourist destination and due to several luxury resorts the Airport is often used by private jets. Mere mortals have more limited choices at this Airport: Air New Zealand can bring you to Auckland and Sounds Air has flights to and from Wellington. The terminal includes a Cafe for drinks and food, the cafe has an excellent view on departing and arriving aircraft.
Avis, Budget and Thrifty have an office at this Airport to rent a car. Taxis are often not available leaving you the door-to-door Shuttle service to get to your destination. The shuttle meets each scheduled flight.
