Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is one of Asia's largest airports with over 50 million passengers a year. The airport was constructed at a cost of US$ 3.5 billion and has the largest dedicated low-cost terminal in the world and the tallest Air Traffic Control tower in the world.
Most flights from Kuala Lumpur International Airport are to Singapore and to Jakarta but there are many more flights to other destinations as well, most of them by Malaysia Airlines. Every day there are flights to 20 destinations from Kuala Lumpur International Airport. Here are the most popular destinations:
KLIA has three runways and two terminals. The Main terminal building for handling passengers from the major airlines, mostly on long-haul international flight and the new KLIA2 low-cost Terminal to cater specifically to the needs of the Malaysian based low-cost airline AirAsia.
Inter-terminal transport:
The KLIA2 Terminal is located 2 km away from the Main Terminal and a shuttle bus plies the route between them. Alternatively you can take the Express train which stops at both terminals (3 minutes for RM 2) or a taxi.
Kuala Lumpur International Airport is located 50 km south of Kuala Lumpur center.
Train: Unlike at the old LCC-T the new KLIA2 Terminal has a station for the KLIA Express Train going to KL Sentral station in just 28 minutes (RM 55). In Terminal KLIA2 you can find the station entrance just outside the arrival area on the right side. At the Main Terminal the entrance is in the basement. The last train to the city departs at around 1 am.
Bus: The airport buses are located on the far end of the terminal KLIA2, a 400 meter walk passing the numerous shops at this airport-within-a-mall. You need to buy a ticket at one of the ticket booths inside. The booths for the bus companies are not located next to each other but on either side so you may have to search a bit.
At the Main Terminal buses depart from the bus station near the car park.
A bus into the city takes an hour and costs 10 Ringgit. Especially during the day numerous buses depart every hour but at night you may have to wait a bit.
