Achmad Yani International Airport (SRG) is located not for away from Semarang city center, in the Western Semarang district, in an area commonly known as Kalibanteng. The name Achmad Yani was taken to honour one of Indonesia's National Heroes, General Achmad Yani.
Most flights from Achmad Yani International Airport are to Jakarta and to Pangkalan Bun but there are many more flights to other destinations as well, most of them by Batik Air. Every day there are flights to 12 destinations from Achmad Yani International Airport. Here are the most popular destinations:
The Achmad Yani Airport has one runway and one small passenger terminal for both domestic and international passengers. The terminal is small and running well over capacity so it can be very crowded. The advantage is that it takes a very short walk from the aircraft to the terminal exit. Although the terminal needs an upgrade all facilities are present here, including ATM, shops, restaurants, money changer and car rental services.
The Achmad Yani airport is located just about 5 km west of Semarang city center, just north of the main Jl. Siliwangi.
The Achmad Yani airport is connected to the TransSemarang bus system Korido IV which runs between Cangkiran and the Tawang train station. Buses pass through the airport in both directions but stop operating at 17:30. To get to the Semarang city center you need to take the TransSemarang bus to Tawang and transfer to Koridor I in Karangayu. A ticket costs Rp. 3500 and this includes the transfer (so don't throw away your ticket).
Taxis at Achmad Yani airport are monopolized so an airport taxi from the airport can be twice as expensive than to the airport. They operate on a fixed fare with coupons you can buy at the taxi counter. Expect to pay about Rp. 70.000 for a taxi to Semarang city center. Alternatively you can walk to the departures area and try to catch a taxi which just dropped off passengers, or walk outside the airport and flag down a taxi which will the use the meter.
