General Santos International Airport is the largest airport in Mindanao island and serves the region known as SOCSARGEN (South Cotabato, Sarangani province and General Santos). Although it is called International Airport the airport has not seen an international flight for decades.

The airport was inaugurated on July 6th, 1996, replacing the old and smaller Buayan Airport (now named Rajah Buayan Air Station used by the Philippine Air Force). This new, larger and modern airport uses the old airport IATA code, GES.
General Santos International Airport is not a large airport so there are not many flights departing here. There are only a few destinations that you can reach from General Santos International Airport, most of these are operated by Cebu Pacific Air. Many people take a flight to Manila and transfer to another flight there.
The runway of General Santos Airport is the third longest runway in the Philippines (3.227 m) after Ninoy Aquino International Airport and Mactan-Cebu International Airport. The airport can handle Airbus A380 aircraft as well but so far only a few flights a day depart here using smaller Airbus A319 aircraft.
With well over a million passengers a year GenSan Airport can offer some decent facilities including cafe's, ATM and taxi service.
General Santos Airport is located about 14 km southwest from the city center of General Santos City.
Jeepneys are available as well which will take you from the airport to the central business district for PHP 50, while a tricycle would ask around PHP 100 after negotiation, while a multicab will cost only PHP 50 per person. Car rentals are also available at the airport.
Outside the arrival hall are taxis and airport multicabs available to bring you to your final destination. A taxi to the city would cost about PHP 300.
