The Haluoleo Airport, previously named Wolter Monginsidi Airport, is an airport near Kendari in southeast Sulawesi. It has recently seen some major improvements including a runway extension and a new passenger terminal (opened in 2012). The plan is to use Kendari's Haluoleo Airport as a second transfer hub for flights to eastern Indonesia, to ease congestion at Makassar's Hasanuddin Airport.
Haluoleo Airport is not a large airport so there are not many flights departing here. There are only a few destinations that you can reach from Haluoleo Airport, most of these are operated by Lion Air. Many people take a flight to Makassar and transfer to another flight there.
Haluoleo Airport has one runway of 2500 meters length and a new passenger terminal which was opened in 2012. Kendari Airport used to be crowded and with limited facilities but this new terminal has improved the service level a lot.
Haluoleo Airport is located on the Jl. Bandara Haluoleo, about 25 km to the southwest from Kendari center.
Since September 2016 Damri provides an airport bus to Kendari harbor. A one-way ticket is Rp. 30.000. The bus stops in the city center as well, before continuing to the Kendari Harbor.
A taxi into Kendari would take about 40 minutes and costs around Rp. 100.000 if using the meter.
