The Phnom Penh International Airport is the main hub for the national carrier Cambodia Angkor Air which has a few regional destinations.
After decades of war in Cambodia the dust finally settled in the early nineties. The new cash-strapped government reached an agreement in 1995 with a French-Malaysian joint venture to operate the airport for twenty years. The new owners invested over hundred million dollars in much needed upgrades and buildings resulting in increased comfort and growing passengers' numbers. But still the airport only handles just over 2 million passengers a year, a fraction of the Bangkok Suvarnhabumi Airport. Just a few airlines fly to Phnom Penh and in general prices can be expensive. Unless you are on a schedule you can often save few hundred dollars by flying to Bangkok and continue your journey overland to Phnom Penh.

The airport has a new terminal which is a comfortable and modern building with restaurants, duty-free shops (although at these shops prices are very high, better buy in the city), business center and ATM's.
The small single-runway Phnom Penh International Airport is located just seven kilometers west of Phnom Penh.
The new Phnom Penh City Bus, which began operating in 2014, connects the airport to the city center: Line 03 runs between the airport and the Night Market and Chom Chav Roundabout. One-way fare is KHR 1500 (about USD 0.37), best to have small money available. The buses operate between 5:30 and 20:30.
A taxi from the airport to any destination in Phnom Penh would cost a fixed USD 12.00, while a tuk-tuk costs USD 7.00. You may save a few bucks by walking outside the airport and try to get a taxi or tuk-tuk there.
