The Phnom Penh International Airport is the main hub for the national carrier Cambodia Angkor Air which has a few regional destinations.
After decades of war in Cambodia the dust finally settled in the early nineties. The new cash-strapped government reached an agreement in 1995 with a French-Malaysian joint venture to operate the airport for twenty years. The new owners invested over hundred million dollars in much needed upgrades and buildings resulting in increased comfort and growing passengers' numbers. But still the airport only handles just over 2 million passengers a year, a fraction of the Bangkok Suvarnhabumi Airport. Just a few airlines fly to Phnom Penh and in general prices can be expensive. Unless you are on a schedule you can often save few hundred dollars by flying to Bangkok and continue your journey overland to Phnom Penh.
Phnom Penh International Airport is not a large airport so there are not many flights departing here. There are only a few destinations that you can reach from Phnom Penh International Airport, most of these are operated by . Many people take a flight to Guangzhou and transfer to another flight there.
