The Sheremetyevo International Airport is one of three large airports serving Moscow, the capital of the Russian Federation, together with Domodedovo and Vnukovo Internation Airport. With well over 30 million passengers a year Sheremetyevo is the busiest Russian Airport and the eleventh busiest of Europe.
Sheremetyevo was a military airfield but opened for civilian flights in 1959. The opening of a second terminal, just in time for the 1980 Russian Summer Olympics, greatly increased the capacity of Sheremetyevo Airport. The old Terminal 1 is now used for domestic flights and the new Terminal 2 for international flights. In the last years many airlines have left Sheremetyevo for the more comfortable and newer Domodedovo Airport and the airport has invested heavily in terminal and transport facilities but still the large majority of flights is from national airline Aeroflot only.
Currently (2017) Sheremetyevo has four passenger terminals labeled C till F. Terminal B is under construction and will open in 2018. Terminal C is mostly used for domestic flights and flights to the Russian Commonwealth. Terminal D and the adjacent Terminal E ar the main terminals for Aeroflot and its SkyTeam partners, while Terminal F, previously called Terminal 2, is used for all other international flights. Terminal C is located to the north of the runways, while Terminals D, E and F are located south of the runways and connected to each other with walkways.
The Sheremetyevo airport is located about 30 km northwest of downtown Moscow.
Train: The Aeroexpress train service connects the airport Terminal E to the Belorussky Railway Terminal in the northwest of the city center. From there you can transfer to a metro to the center (20 minutes). Tickets for the Aeroexpress train cost RUB 470 per person and the ride takes about 35 minutes. Trains depart every half hour, except during the night.
Bus: Several buses operate a service between the airport terminals and different metro stations in Moscow. Bus line 851 (RUB 50) and 949 (RUB 75) can take you in 90 minutes to Rechnoy Vokzal Metro Station. Bus line 817 (RUB 50) and 948 (RUB 75) can take you from any of the terminals to Planernaya Metro Station. A night bus H1 connects the airport with Leninskiy Prospect Metro Station.

Official Airport Taxis have a fixed price depending on our destination. A ride into Moscow city center costs RUB 1900, including 100 for the highway toll.
