Townsville International Airport or also called Garbutt Airport is a large regional airport in Queensland, Australia, used for both civial scheduled flights and by the Royal Australian Air Force. The airport is located just 4km west of the Townsville CBD.
Until the 1980s Townsville offered several international destinations, but due to airline insolvency and restructering, all international flights were eventually suspended leaving the airport with domestic flights only. Recently, in 2015, JetStar used the international status to commence a three-weekly international flight service to Denpasar airport in Bali.
Townsville Airport is used by up to 9 airlines offering flights to all major airports in Australia, like Darwin, Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Cairns.
Townsville Airport is not a large airport so there are not many flights departing here. There are only a few destinations that you can reach from Townsville Airport, most of these are operated by Alliance Airlines. Many people take a flight to Melbourne and transfer to another flight there.
Transport options are limited at Townsville Airport. Car rental and taxis are available of course. Please be aware there is a $3 airport toll above the meter price if you take a taxi at the airport.
Ingham Travel offers four scheduled return trips each day between the airport and Ingham. Please call them at (07) 47765666 to make a booking.
