Glasgow Airport, or formerly Abbotsinch Airport, is the main international airport serving Glasgow together with Glasgow Prestwick Airport, which is mainly for low-cost flights. It is the second largest airport of Scotland, after Edinburgh Airport.
The airport has reached it maximum capacity and is unable to grow further as it is constrained by motorways and rivers around it. Edinburgh Airport has recently overtaken Glasgow Airport as the busiest Scottish Airport. Glasgow still has more long-haul intercontinental flights.
Glasgow Airport is not a large airport so there are not many flights departing here. There are only a few destinations that you can reach from Glasgow Airport, most of these are operated by easyJet. Many people take a flight to Bristol and transfer to another flight there.
The airport has one runway and one terminal which consists of three different Piers: West, Central and East Pier. Basically, the West Pier is for international flights, the Central Pier for domestic flights and the East Pier for low-cost airlines.
Glasgow airport is located about 20 km west of Glasgow city center.
Although a rail line was announced and planned for, this was cancelled in 2009, leaving you with buses and taxis to get to central Glasgow.
The best way is to use the frequent and quick Glasgow Shuttle (First line 500) bus which departs outside the terminal to the main railway stations in the city center. (30 minutes, one-way fare is 7.50 pound). There are cheaper but slower options: First bus line 747 (4 pound) or McGill bus line 66 to Paisley Gilmour Street railway station, from where you can catch a local train into the city.

A taxi to Glasgow city center would cost about 25 pounds. Taxis are waiting outside the terminal.
