Sydney is only a two hours drive away so it may be more efficient in time and money to fly to Sydney instead and take a bus or train to Newcastle.
Newcastle Airport is not a large airport so there are not many flights departing here. There are only a few destinations that you can reach from Newcastle Airport, most of these are operated by JetStar Airways. Many people take a flight to Brisbane and transfer to another flight there.
