The Tjilik Riwut Airport serves the city of Palangkaraya and is the largest airport in Central Kalimantan. This airport is named after Tjilik Riwut, the first Governor of Central Kalimantan. The airport is a hub for Lion Air which also operates the Lion Air Flight School and the Lion Air Hangar for maintenance.
Tjilik Riwut Airport is not a large airport so there are not many flights departing here. There are only a few destinations that you can reach from Tjilik Riwut Airport, most of these are operated by Lion Air. Many people take a flight to Jakarta and transfer to another flight there.
The airport has one runway and one passenger terminal. Both will be upgraded in the near future: the runway will be extended from 2500 to 3000 meter and a new, modern terminal will be constructed with two floors and a total area of over 15.000 square meters.
The Tjilik Riwut Airport is located in the eastern edge of Palangkaraya, about 5 km southeast from the city center.
