The Gimhae International Airport, also known as Kimhae International airport, is located west of the main city of Busan in South Korea. The Gimhae Airport is the third largest of Korea with a few domestic flights to Seoul and Jeju and many international destinations to all major cities in Asia.
The airport opened in 1976 and the new international terminal opened in 2007 and has about 10 million passengers a year. The airport is relatively small and old, especially compared to Incheon airport (one of the best airports in the world). There are plans to build a whole new airport on the island of Gadeok-do as Gimhae airport has no room for expansion and is also used by the Air Force.
There are two terminals, a domestic one and international situated next to each other. Both have all basic facilities like ATMs, restaurants and shops.
Most flights from Gimhae International Airport are to Fukuoka and to Jeju City but there are many more flights to other destinations as well, most of them by Air Busan. Every day there are flights to 14 destinations from Gimhae International Airport. Here are the most popular destinations:
Gimhae Airport is located just about 10 km west of Busan city center.
A taxi into Busan can cost you over 15.000 won but there are good alternatives. The quickest way into the city, especially during rush hours, is with the Busan-Gimhae Light Rain Transit which will take about an hour to get into Busan and connects to Metro Lines 2 and 3.
Several airport express busses depart from Gimhae airport as well to several destinations in the city and Haeundae. Ticket will cost about 6000 won which can be bought inside the bus. The bus departs every 20 minutes outside both the domestic and international terminal. You can also take a local bus (1000 won) to get into the city, best to ask the English speaking staff at the information desk for more information.
