Hobart International Airport serves Hobart, the capital of Tasmania and is for domestic flights only as the only international flight to New Zealand terminated in 1998. You can however fly to Antarctica (with Skytraders) from Hobart.
With the recent growth of low-cost airlines in Australia, Hobart Airport has seen surge in arrivals as all Australian low-cost airlines operate flights to Hobart, significantly reducing the cost of a ticket. Jetstar, Tiger Air and Virgin Australia operate flights between Hobart and their hubs in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney which makes Hobart easily reachable from most cities in Australia with just one transfer.
Hobart International Airport is not a large airport so there are not many flights departing here. There are only a few destinations that you can reach from Hobart International Airport, most of these are operated by Qantas. Many people take a flight to Melbourne and transfer to another flight there.
The Hobart International Airport is located in Cambridge about 16km northeast of Hobart the capital of Tasmania.
Public transport is a hassle so you are limited to taxis and the Redline Coaches shuttle service which runs between the airport and the Central Business District of Hobart (about 45 minutes). The shuttle costs $19 and departs after each arriving aircraft.
