Citilink is an Indonesian low-cost Airline and a subsidiary of the national carrier Garuda Indonesia. Citilink concentrates on shuttle services between the largest cities in Indonesia. The company was founded in 2001 as Garuda felt that they had to compete with the many low-cost airlines. But Citilink never got the attention it deserved from its parent. Cititlink typically got the oldest planes from Garuda which Garuda did not use anymore. In 2011 Garuda announced it would spin-off Citilink with its own licenses and IATA code, allowing it to operate independently. The plan also includes a new advertising strategy, new uniforms, redesigned logo, a new website and new aircraft. In late 2012 Garuda announced they had placed an order for 25 Airbus A320neo which will be used by Citilink. These new aircraft will be deployed on new routes Citilink wants to open to cities in Eastern Indonesia as well as to several international routes to Singapore and Malaysia. All new aircraft will be delivered in the years 2014 to 2018 and will replace the existing Boeing 737 fleet.
Citilink flies to over 48 destinations. Most Citilink flights are for destinations in Indonesia but Citilink has international flights to several other countries as well, like for example Malaysia and Timor Leste. From its main base in Jakarta 89 flights depart every week. Many people who look for Citilink tickets look for flights to Surabaya and Denpasar Bali.
