Don Mueang International Airport is the former Bangkok International Airport and now operates as a low-cost airport.
The airport was officially opened on March 27, 1914 as a Royal Thai Air Force airport. In 1924 Don Mueang Airport commenced on commercial operation too with the arrival of the first commercial KLM flight to Don Mueang.
Before the closure of Don Mueang Airport the airport was the operational center of Thai Airways International and has served most air traffic in Thailand with more than 80 airlines, 160,000 flights, 30 million passengers and 700,000 tonnes of cargo per year. Don Mueang was the 18th busiest airports in the world, and second in Asia based on total volume of passenger arrivals and departures. On 28 September 2006, Don Mueang Airport closed for renovations and was replaced by the new Suvarnabhumi Airport as the main international airport of Bangkok. After the renovations Don Mueang airport began operating again on March 25, 2007 for some domestic flights only while there are still two international terminals and one domestic terminal. Most low-cost airlines have moved from Suvarnabhumi airport to Don Mueang.
When you land or take off at Don Mueang airport you will notice a complete golf course is located between the two runways, without any fences separating the golf course from the runway.

Don Mueang Airport is located along the main Don Mueang Toll Way, about 25 km north of central Bangkok.
Don Mueang Airport can be reached from downtown Bangkok by the Vibhavadi Rangsit Road. This road is the main road that connects the airport to downtown Bangkok.
Just in front of the terminal at Don Mueang Airport is a train station with rail service connecting with Hualamphong station in central Bangkok. The train station is across the road, use the pedestrian bridge. One-way fare to Hualamphong Train station is 20 baht.
Public buses to various destinations in Bangkok pass the airport. The bus stop is along the highway, at the right hand side after exiting the airport.
A taxi from Don Mueang Airport into central Bangkok cost about 250 baht. The taxi stand is outside the arrivals area, there is a booth where you need to state your destination and a driver is assigned to you.
