The international airport of Brisbane is with well over 20 million passengers a year the third largest airport in Australia after Sydney and Melbourne.
From the Brisbane Airport you can fly to pretty much all destinations within Australia as well as to 30 international destinations, mostly in Asia and New Zealand with one of the 26 airlines that serve Brisbane. The airport is a major hub for both Virgin Australia as well as for the Qantas group (Qantas and Jetstar).
This Brisbane Airport was opened in 1988 to replace the old airport at Eagle Farm. To cater to further growth in international traffic a new international terminal was constructed in 1995 which has been expanded since then.
Most flights from Brisbane Airport are to Sydney and to Melbourne but there are many more flights to other destinations as well, most of them by Qantas. Every day there are flights to 18 destinations from Brisbane Airport. Here are the most popular destinations:
Brisbane Airport has two terminals, one for domestic and one for international flights. The two terminals are 3 km apart and are connected by an Airtrain (ticket $5, but is already included in your flight ticket if you have a transfer flights with Qantas and Virgin).
Alternatively you can take the free TBus (outside arrivals hall) or a taxi. If you have a transfer at Brisbane airport you should allow for enough time to transfer between terminals.
Brisbane Airport is located about 13 km northeast of Brisbane city center, on former swamp lamp on Cribb Island.
The Airtrain departs from the airport regularly throughout the day and stops at the main Brisbane train stations. A ticket can cost up to $18. The CoachTrans is a shuttle service which will drop you off at your destination for a price of about $20, pre-booking is advised.
By public transport is also possible but it requires a few stops: first you need to take the T-bus to Skygate then Translink bus 590 to Toombul Shopping centre and there you can get on a train to the city.
