Oslo Airport, also called Gandermoen Airport to distinguish it from other airports in Oslo, is the main airport serving Oslo, the capital of Norway. Oslo Airport is the largest airport in Norway and one of the few in the world with a high-speed rail connection (max 210 km/h) and is thanks to that the airport with the largest percentage of passengers using public transport in the world (70%).
The Airport opened in 1998 at Gandermoen at a cost of over a billion euro, after a decades-long debate how to deal with the congestion at Fornebu Airport. Since the opening at Gandermoen the airport has experienced serious problems with frozen fog and super-cooled rain in winter months, sometimes causing damage to aircraft engines and emergency landings.
Oslo Airport is not a large airport so there are not many flights departing here. There are only a few destinations that you can reach from Oslo Airport, most of these are operated by Norwegian Air Shuttle. Many people take a flight to Dusseldorf and transfer to another flight there.
